Review:

Zodiac is a brilliant descent into one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in history. It is different than the directing style that Fincher did in his previous movies like Se7en or Fight Club but the risk taken was successful.

Based on a true story of The Zodiac Killer in California whose identity is still not discovered, Fincher did a great job recreating every scene. The acting alone of the cast is one of the greatest features of the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Ruffalo did an excellent job playing the characters of a cartoonist who is obsessed trying to uncover the identity of the Zodiac Killer and a detective who is struggling to find a lead on the case due to major interference from the public, respectively.

The first half shows the two different perspectives, one from Robert Graysmith’s perspective and one of detective Dave Toschi. As the movie progresses these two perspectives converge into one creating a great effect. Even though Robert Downey Jr.’s role was small, his character gave a comedic attribute to the story.

This biopic’s directing style created a tense environment and kept us as viewers on the edge of our seats. The accuracy of this movie in regard to the real life crime scenes, made it shine out of the rest of true crime movies where the other directors add scenes which never really happened in real life. At the end it was a movie that we deeply enjoyed.
